Riffing on the Open End

While the video was speed up, this was actually about 10 minutes of play using the principles of elastic and sequential motion, taking the spine through its 5 spinal shapes: working neutral, flexion, extension, lateral flexion, and rotation. Movements from the mat, reformer, and cadillac are integrated in this improvisation. While there are corrections I would make as teacher and I would ask for as student, “perfection” is not the goal, rather, healthy, nourishing, joyful movement. Connecting to the “biceps of the lungs,” or breath work, gives access to as much precision, control, and flow as available this particular day. I hope you enjoy, learn, and explore your own foundational improvisation.
